Road Cycles 2018

Bencroy climb Sliabh an Iarainn mountain range.

This route is almost exactly 100km and takes you up Bencroy, a long steady climb in the Sliabh an Iarainn mountain range. The climb starts in the village of Ballinaglera on the shores of Lough Allen and winds its way over the mountain bog with almost zero traffic. At the summit there is a small monument to the Ultachs, displaced people from Ulster who took up residence on the top of the mountain in 1795.

From Manorhamilton take the Carrick road to Drumkeerin. Turn left and in the village of Dowra turn right. Soon you arrive in the small village of Ballinaglera. Turn left in the village and left again at the stop sign. Follow the road straight to the top of the mountain and descend carefully, bearing right at junctions until you reach Drumshanbo. Take the main road back to Manorhamilton
