Through a series of schematic drawings, Andy Roche has created a body of work based on the practice of sacred geometry. Painted and printed works are projected into 3-dimensional units which are further assembled into various modular forms. By varying the assembly and scale of each modular unit different aspects of complexity are generated; and singular units, whilst rigidly geometric in isolation, create unforeseen changing patterns in groups. This shift from static geometry to fluid abstraction occurs when stable systems breakdown to become something new. In developing the work Roche has consciously upcycled local waste materials such as cardboard evoking the changing uses and adaptation of everyday materials in a more sustainable future.
